AAP’s Bibi aims at political revival in Dera Bassi

Dera Bassi, January 28
Bibi Sarabjit Kaur, wife of the late SAD Minister Capt Kanwaljit Singh, is set for the Assembly poll contest on February 4. Despite pitted against sitting MLA NK Sharma and Congress leader Deepinder Singh Dhillon, her election campaign is marked by enthusiasm.
After completing her first phase of campaigning in Dera Bassi, she is now eyeing Zirakpur. Going door to door to strike a personal chord with the voters, she has been addressing election meetings on a daily basis. Her day begins with paying of obeisance to the Sikh gurus. Thereafter, at 8 am in the morning, Sarbjit, accompanied with her daughter Manpreet Kaur Dolly, leaves for the door-to-door campaigning.
Banking on the integrity and honesty of her husband Capt Kanwaljit Singh, Bibi assures people that once elected, she would follow the footsteps of her husband and do everything possible for the betterment of the constituency.
To reach out to every house, she talks to people, particularly women. She even notes down their problems and assures them to solve these after the party was voted to power. The AAP leader speaks to the people patiently and canvasses on foot. “It is tiring, no doubt. But it is important that I go to each and every house,” Bibi added.
Asked if SAD-BJP candidate NK Sharma was her main rival, Bibi’s daughter Manpreet Kaur Dolly reacts sharply, “No way. It is not going to be a triangular contest.”
Manpreet Dolly is of the view that anger prevailed against the SAD-BJP government in Punjab and people wanted change. He (NK Sharma) is exposed and people know how to defeat his designs, she added.
She said her father had worked hard for the constituency. She was unhappy that her family was ignored after her father’s death. SAD denied ticket to Dolly and her brother in the last elections.
She further added that she, along with her mother, were happy to carry forward the political legacy of her father.
