The J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages today commemorated prominent Punjabi writer, intellectual and educationist Gyani Kartar Singh Komal.
Besides prominent Punjabi writers, intellectuals and scholars, family members of late Gyani Kartar Singh Komal were also present on the occasion.
Kirat Singh Inqalabi, president, Jammu and Kashmir Punjabi Sahitya Sabha, presided over the function while Member of Legislative Council Charanjit Singh Khalsa was the chief guest.
Prominent Punjabi writer Daljit Singh and secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Aziz Hajini were also in the presidium.
Noted Punjabi writer and critic Kanwal Kashmiri presented a paper on the life and works of Gyani Kartar Singh Komal. Kanwal highlighted the contribution of late Komal to Punjabi language and culture and said the late Punjabi writer and educationist was committed and dedicated to the overall development of Punjabi language and literature.
In his remarks, Khalsa underlined the importance of such personalities, who mark guidelines for the coming generations. He described Komal as a source of encouragement for the scholars.
Khalsa also expressed his satisfaction over Academy’s work in the field of art, culture and languages.
Earlier, Aziz Hajini highlighted the activities of the Academy in the field of language and literature and said he would do whatever was possible for promotion of diverse linguistic heritage of the state.
A special issue of Punjabi Sheeraza, literary journal, on the life and works of Komal was also released on the occasion.
