Ajit Singh fastest among veterans
Mandi Ahmedgarh: Ajit Singh Randhawa of Amritsar and Teja Singh of Phallewal villages emerged as the fastest runners in the race for veterans on the second day of the 81st chapter of the Kila Raipur Rural Sports at the Grewal Sports Stadium at Kila Raipur village near here on Saturday.
Tej Partap Singh Kotli, former Transport Minister of Punjab, chaired the inaugural session. Winners were felicitated by the Chief Manager, State Bank of India, and H S Pannu, Deputy Superintendent of Police. Traditional sports, athletic events, individual items and daredevil performances enthralled the spectators on the second day also. Horse-riding skills of cops from the Police Academy, Phillaur, martial arts by Nihangs and acrobatics performers were appreciated by all. Dheera Singh of Barnala lifted the base stone of a domestic grinding mill and specially-abled Jagjit Singh pulled a car with his teeth. Spectators were overwhelmed to watch 70-year-old Hardam Singh of Alamgir Akhara perform 100 ‘dand’ (prostrate sit-ups) and Jagtar Singh of Mehal Kalan bending an iron bar with his throat. Several differently-abled students performed taekwondo, led by coach Satwinder Singh from Patiala. In the Bhagwant Memorial Gold Cup Hockey Tournament, Grewal Academy, Jarkhar XI, SGPC Batala and Hans Kalan teams reached the semifinals.— OC

Hockey (Men): Jarkhar Eleven beat Hawari Haryana and Grewal Academy Kila Raipur beat Beat Buttar Eleven by 2-1. SGPC Batala defeated Gurdarpur Eleven by 2-1 and Hans Kalan beat Meenia Hockey Club.
Shot Put (Men): Prabh Kirpal Singh of Mastuana Sahib (13.94 meter) was first, Parvinder Singh of Morinda (12.50 meter) was second, and Sahil of Sangrur (11.98 meter ) was third.
Six-mile cycle race (Women): Sonal of Ludhiana was first, Pooja Swaich of Ludhiana was second and Harpreet Kaur was third.
Long Jump (Women): Jaspreet Kaur (5.41 meter) first, Renu (5.38 meter) second, Ritu (5.35 meter) third.
Long Jump (Men) : Mehak Preet Singh of Sunam (7.19 meter) first, Narendar Singh of BSF (6.65 meter ) second, Gurdas Singh of Ludhiana (6.57 meter) was third.
100 meter (Men): Harjit Singh of Raipur Majri (10.66 sec) first, Raghuveer Singh of Jallandhar (10.93 sec) was second, Honey of Sangrur (11.00 sec ) was third.
100 meter (Women): Manpreet Kaur (12.66 sec) first, Jaspreet Kaur (13.00 sec) second, and Sheelu Yadav (13.15 sec) was third.
1,500 meter (Men): Jagdev Singh of Khanna was first, Gurmeet Singh of Mastuana was second; Gurpreet Singh of Bhaini Saheb was third.
400 meter (Women): Veerpal Kaur of Patiala (60 sec) was first, Prachi of Patiala (60.44 sec) was second, Manpreet Kaur of Patiala (60.87 sec) was third.
