The science club of IS Dev Samaj Senior Secondary School, Sector 21-C, observed Akshay Urja Diwas. The event was sponsored by CREST, Department of Science and Technology, Chandigarh.  The club organised essay-writing and poster-making competitions. Prizes to winners were distributed among students by school principal Sumati Kanwar. 

Grandparents’ Day

Grandparents’ Day was celebrated with great pomp and show at Bhavan Vidyalaya Junior. Students of Class V organised a special programme for their grandparents. A melodious bhakti geet was sung by Sahana of nursery class. A dance was presented by Raavi of nursery and Vaishnavi of Class II.  Principal Taruna Vashisht thanked the grandparents for gracing the occasion and highlighted their importance in a child’s life.

Legal literacy club

Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 33-D, started a legal literacy club. The club was launched by Aminder Sharma, Chief Judicial Magistrate. An activity calendar was also launched by the chief guest. Principal Indra Beniwal, ex-principal Karan Singh and school management committee (SMC) members were also present on the occasion. Club in-charge Amita Rani Singh, along with 25 student volunteers from each section, attended a motivational lecture by the chief guest.

Street play

Saupin’s School, Sector 32, organised a street play on women empowerment at the Plaza, Sector 17. The objective of the play was to highlight the victimisation of women since childhood, leading to adverse circumstances. The play depicted all kinds of abuse and violence women are subjected to by men in all walks of life. The story line of play was also focused on encouraging women to raise voice against the crime against them. The play highlighted the importance of women rights. Principal Surita Sharma said awareness about social evils was necessary for a healthy society. 

Yajna performed

On the occasion of World Literacy Day, a yajna was organised at Hansraj Public School, Panchkula, to emphasise the need to inculcate traditional values among students. They were urged to recognise the implication of the Vedas in the modern life. A bhajan dandhya was organised, which was attended by eminent personalities. Pt Satish Satyam, head, Kendriya Arya Yuvak Prishad, Gurgaon, lent his voice and filled the evening with melodious bhajans. Chief Guest HR Gandahr, president, Arya Pradeshik Pratinidhi Sabha, New Delhi, congratulated principal Jaya Bhardwaj for her dedication to the cause of spreading education keeping the Vedic knowledge intact with the purpose of preparing global citizens. Guest of honour KS Arya appreciated efforts of the principal. 

Plantation drive

Valley Public School, Panchkula, organised a tree plantation drive. Principal Col GC Mittal (retd), along with vice-principal Asha Sharma and science teacher, Savita Sinduria planted saplings on the school premises. Student from different classes participated actively. They took an oath to protect and save environment and keep surroundings neat and clean. 

World Literacy Day 

World Literacy Day was observed at DAV Police Public School, Panchkula. Principal Vandana Tripathi, along with the staff and students, observed the day and appreciated efforts made to increase the literacy rate around the world. The school has joined hands with the Rotary International District 3080 to set up e-learning centers in the school. Adult literacy projects will also be launched for the welfare of the people residing at the Police Lines and neighboring areas. — TNS
