Separate department for MSME sector soon

DEHRADUN: Micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector played a significant role in the development of the economy of the state and helpful in checking migration and poverty alleviation, said Chief Minister Harish Rawat at the biannual conference of the Industry Department State Employees Union here today.

Micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector played a significant role in the development of the economy of the state and helpful in checking migration and poverty alleviation, said Chief Minister Harish Rawat at the biannual conference of the Industry Department State Employees Union here today.

The Chief Minister after inaugurating the conference released a souvenir published by the Industry Department State Employees Union.

Rawat emphasized the need to promote the traditional craft and handicrafts. He said the state government had implemented the MSME Policy and a separate department would be set up to strengthen the MSME sector.

He said that a working plan for the next ten years to be drafted for the MSME sector so that small industries could also prosper along with big ones.

The Chief Minister said small Industries should be promoted in the hilly areas particularly.

Rawat said efforts should be made to encourage young people for self employment and wooden art centre, carpet weaving training centre and shawl weaving training centre should be started to provide technical knowhow and expertise.The Chief Minister informed that the state government had decided to train 2,000 craftswomen encouraging the self-employment amongst women. After training, these master trainer would impart training to the other women. The state government is making efforts to make available markets to the products made by the self help groups. A policy is being drafted to purchase these products by governmental departments.
