Architects to issue structural stability certificate

The state government has allowed architects to issue structural stability certificate for low and medium risk buildings in the state.
Urban Development and Town and Country Planning Minister Sudhir Sharma said today that the residential buildings having two-three storey and those constructed on slopes above 150 to 300 storeys and buildings having single storey and constructed on slope less than 150 were low risk buildings.
However, qualified structural engineers were competent to issue structural stability certificate in respect to all types of buildings, he added. Out of the total 995 registered private professionals with the department, 48 were structural engineers and 432 Class-A professionals. Sudhir Sharma said soon the Town and Country Planning Department would make it mandatory to have full-time supervision of under-construction buildings for statutory compliance of building norms and stopping deviations in towns and planned areas in the state. — TNS
