Assam evinces interest in biological control of insects

Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora today visited the Centre of Excellence for Vegetables, an Indo-Israel project, in Gharaunda of the district.

The Agriculture Minister, accompanied by KK Mittal, Additional Chief Secretary Agriculture, and others, discussed the problems being faced by them in installation of a Centre of Excellence for Vegetables in Assam.

They saw the facilities and demonstration work, including nursery raising in less soil under hi-tech green house, high value vegetables and flower cultivations under protected cultivation technology. He also showed keen interest in biological control of insects and pests in open fields.

and in charge of the centre, gave a powerpoint presentation about the working and progress of the centre. He made them aware about the technologies and production of the centre.

Bora lauded the work being done by the centre and said that saplings produced at Gharaunda were far better than Assam. He would send officers for training to learn new technologies at Gharaunda.

“It was a very motivational visit as the work of installation of a centre of excellence is under progress in Assam,” said the minister.

“Haryana is a big hub of agriculture technology and it has given us several technologies to enhance the productivity. This project would also help us to explore the green house projects in Assam,” he said.
