Some miscreants attempted to break open an ATM machine in the Shimlapuri area on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. According to information, the miscreants entered the ATM booth by breaking its wall. When they were trying to break open the ATM machine, PCR staff reached the spot. Observing the movement of the police outside the booth, the miscreants ran away by leaving their tools behind. The policemen ran behind the accused, but they managed to escape. The police recovered several tools which the miscreants were using to break open the machine. The police is investigating the case.
Two held with narcotics
The police arrested a person with 25 grams of opium here on Saturday. The accused has been identified as Kulwinder Singh, a resident of Gaunsgarh village. Police officials at Division No 2 said the accused was heading toward Civil Hospital on a motorcycle. On seeing the police naka, he tried to flee from the spot. However, police arrested him and recovered the opium from his custody. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered in this regard. Another person was arrested with 34 grams of heroin at Dhandari Bridge. The accused has been identified as Vikramjeet Singh, a resident of Dugri.
Thieves arrested
The police arrested four youths who were involved in several theft incidents in the city. The police have recovered one stolen bike, 6 gas cylinders and seven mobile phones from their possession. The accused have been identified as Jolly Kumar, Ajay Pal, Ravinder Singh and Som Nath. According to the police, the accused confessed their crime during the investigation.
