BAMS doc held under MTP Act

A BAMS doctor was arrested for carrying out medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) illegally last night. Dr Sukrita was running a private clinic at Ledi village in Chhachhrauli block of the district.

Dr Vijay Kumar Garg, Civil Surgeon, said following a tip-off, they formed a team headed by Dr Vijay Dahiya, Deputy Civil Surgeon (PNDT). The team laid a trap and arrested Dr Sukrita and recovered Rs 5,000 from her possession which she charged from the patient.

Dr Garg said that a nine-week pregnant woman yesterday came to the Civil Hospital for MTP as she was suffering from intra-uterine death (dead foetus).

He said that after obtaining consent from the patient and her husband, she along with a decoy was sent to the accused doctor.

He said that the team had gone with an ambulance and stopped it at a distance from her clinic.

“After charging Rs 5,000 from the patient, the doctor gave her a pill related to MTP. After some time, as soon as the doctor started the process of carrying out MTP, she was caught red-handed,” said Dr Garg.

He the accused was booked under the MTP Act and Sections 312 and 315 of IPC by the Chhachhrauli police.
