BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, won the Wipro National Earthian Award-2016.
The institution is among top 12 schools of India to win the award. The aim of the awards is to build awareness regarding taking the responsibility and ownership for one´s actions towards the environment.
The program is designed by the Wipro to deal with the challenges — sustainable transport, waste management and efficient use of water sources — which require feasible, intelligent solutions and a population which is informed and ready to tackle them effectively.
The core objectives of the Wipro Earthian is inculcating the knowledge about sustainable development into school and college curriculums to engage the students with sustainability issues through multiple perspectives.
A team of five students, under the guidance of mentors Jyotsana Rai and Vipra Kale, participated in ‘Earthian Programme’ on the theme ‘Biodiversity.
The award ceremony will take place at Bangalore in February next year. “The program provided exposure to young minds on multiple perspectives of biodiversity. It will help them to make more informed choices about their lives and society,” said Paramjit Kaur, school principal.
