Haryana will soon have a new government medical college in Bhiwani.
The Government of India (GoI) today gave its approval for the upgrade of the Bhiwani District Hospital to a medical college.
DK Bahera, Director of the Department of Medical Education and Research (DMER), said a senior official of the GoI had said that the approval to the medical college had been granted at a meeting held today.
He said under the project of upgrading the existing district hospitals into medical colleges, the GoI and the state government would spend Rs 380 crore on the project in 60:40 ratio.
The medical college would have 100 seats, said Bahera.
Besides catering to the district and the surrounding Hisar, Jind and Mahendragarh districts, it would also provide also healthcare to the nearby Churu and Jhunjunu districts of Rajasthan.
As per the project submitted by the DMER, the 13-acre plot, housing the 300-bed District Hospital, will be upgraded to 500-bed hospital to fulfil the guidelines of the Medical Council of India criteria for the teaching hospital.
The hospital will have state-of-the-art infrastructure.
The teaching block of the hospital will be constructed on 25 acres in Prem Nagar village, about 9 km away from the District Hospital.
