Bicentennial of Kuka movement founder on February 12

The state government has decided to organise state-level celebrations to mark the 200th birth anniversary of Satguru Ram Singh, founder of the Kuka movement.

Official spokesperson said the celebrations would be organised on Basant Panchmi on February 12 and a 19- member committee had been constituted for the same.

He said the committee comprised 14 government representatives, including Chief Minister as the chairman and cabinet ministers of departments of Industries and Commerce; Finance; Tourism and Cultural Affairs; Information and Public Relations and Irrigation as its members.

Other government members include Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa; Avinash Rai Khanna; Prem Singh Chandumara (all MPs); Chief Secretary, Punjab; Principal Secretary, Finance; Vice-Chancellors of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, and Punjabi University, Patiala.

The five non-government members of the committee are Kamal Sharma, president BJP, Surinder Singh Namdhari, Ajit Singh Namdhari, Swaran Singh Virk and Balbir Singh Kapoor.
