Former MLA from RS Pura Prof Gharu Ram today resigned from the BJP and joined the Congress along with a large number of his supporters.
Prof Gharu Ram was welcomed in the party at the Congress office here today by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ghulam Ahmed Mir, senior vice-president Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla and other senior party leaders.
Gharu Ram, while addressing his supporters, expressed full faith in the policies of the Congress and its leadership in the country and state and assured to work dedicatedly to strengthen the party in the RS Pura constituency and elsewhere.
The PCC chief, while welcoming him in the party, said the RS Pura area, in general, and the downtrodden sections, in particular, had remained the backbone of the Congress and the induction of Prof Gharu Ram was an indication that the Congress was on its path to restore its lost confidence and support in these segments. He asked him to work for strengthening the Congress in his area of influence. Sham Lal Sharma, while welcoming Prof Gharu Ram, said his entry would give boost to the party not only in the RS Pura belt, but also in other areas of his followers.
Other prominent leaders who were present included Ravinder Sharma, Namrata Sharma, Manjeet Singh, Vikram Malhotra and Indu Pawar (Mahila Congress president).
