BSNL employees end three-day stir

Employees of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) today ended their three-day strike.
Members of various unions were on a three-day protest for their demands and rejuvenation of the BSNL.
In a joint statement, All-India BSNL Employees Union district secretary Rajesh Kumar Gautam, BSNL Employees Union district president Kuldeep Chauhan, Sanchar Nigam Executives’ Association (SNEA) district president MS Pathania and National Federation of Telecom Employees (NFTE) district president Pritam Chand said a three-day dharna from January 6 was staged on a call given by various unions for the rejuvenation of the ailing public telecom service provider.
They said the unions had submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on ‘BSNL bhachao, Bharat bhachao’ issue.
They said their main demands include filling of the posts of the director and the Chairman-cum-Managing Director to put an end to the proposed merger of the BSNL and the MTNL, compensation for the losses incurred due to landline phones in the rural areas, refund of Rs 6,000 crore for the spectrum released by the BSNL, financial assistance for providing better 4G and broadband services and installing new towers in the rural areas, recruitment of new employees and mandatory BSNL services in public sector enterprises of the Central and state governments.
