IIT-Mandi becomes functional
Finally, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mandi, has become functional. Its director Prof Timothy A Gonsalves, along with the faculty, has shifted from the south campus to the north campus at Kamand.
Gonsalves said the building was completed in eight months with the efforts of National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited ( NBCC) and construction wing of the IIT-Mandi.
“With the hostel facility in place, the first batch of 20 postgraduate students has shifted to the north campus,” he said.
Out of the total 50 buildings planned to be built on the north campus, a school building, three residential blocks, one hostel (having 50 rooms), two blocks of staff quarters are functional now. A few more hostels and residential buildings are expected to be readied by March 2017.
He said the work on academic blocks was under way. With the completion of the buildings, more students and staff are expected to move to the north campus.
A medical unit has also been opened there.
New assistant director takes charge
Deepanshu Rastogi has joined the National Power Committee Division of the Central Electricity Authority as the assistant director. He cleared the UPSC exam and secured AIR-58 in the Engineering Services Examination-2015.
Workshop on nano-materials
A workshop on ‘Advanced Nano-materials for Energy, Health and Sustainability’ was held on the campus. The event focused on chemical science works in the field of human health, environment and sustainability. Indian and UK researchers spoke on various topics.
