Candidates rode swanky cars, open jeeps and motorcycles during roadshows across the constituency today in a last-minute bid to woo voters on the last day of campaigning for the Assembly elections.

Though roadshows were the order of the day for the past several days, the intensity increased today as candidates made a last-ditch effort to swing voter opinion in their favour through show of strength.

The SAD-BJP alliance party workers organised a roadshow in which all party office-bearers put up a united face and called for the victory of their candidate and sitting MLA NK Sharma.

Putting a joint face among the public, scores of youth on motorbikes and cars escorted NK Sharma, who was atop an open vehicle.

Addressing mediapersons before starting his roadshow, SAD-BJP candidate NK Sharma said the people who had deceived their mother party could never be loyal to the state and its people.

Similarly, Congress candidate Deepinder Singh Dhillon, along with horde of party workers, reached the interiors of the city and sought votes. Led by Dhillon, his supporters started from Kalgidhar Enclave in Zirakpur and covered Dhakoli, Baltana, Peer Muchhalla, Bhabhat, Patiala Road, VIP Road and terminated at the party office in Zirakpur.

The city unit of the AAP, along with its candidate Bibi Sarabjit Kaur, also held a roadshow which started from McDonald near Zirakpur. The party workers gathered here from where the cavalcade started. The roadshow passed through different villages in the Dera Bassi constituency. It concluded at Lalru. — OC
