Carmel Convent win chess c’ship

Chandigarh, August 2

Carmel Convent, Sector 9, registered 4-0 victory over Tender Heart School, Sector 33, to win the U-17 girls' inter-school chess championship at Government Model High School, Sector 38, here today. 

St. Kabir School, Sector 26, finished third after defeating Government Senior Secondary School, Kaimbwala, 3-1. 

Earlier in the semifinal, Tender Heart defeated Government Senior Secondary School, Kaimbwala, 3-1, while Carmel Convent overcame St. Kabir 3-1.  

Saupin's, NPS register wins 

Saupin's School, Sector 32, defeated St. Soldier's School, Sector 28, 2-1 in the boys' U-17 inter-school football championship at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, here today. 

Gurnoor opened the account for Saupin's in the 9th minute but Sunny Dhauja struck for St. Soldier's in the 32nd minute to draw parity. Saupin's scored the winning goal through Arnav in the 49th minute. 

In another match, New Public School (NPS), Sector 8, blanked Delhi Public School, Sector 40, 4-0. 

Gurpreet (5th minute), Harman (24th minute), Paramjit (27th minute) and Harkarman (43rd minute) scored a goal each for the winning side. 

Taekwondo title for Anita

In the ongoing inter-school taekwondo championship, Anita beat Gurwinder to claim the top spot in the below 41kg category in the girls' U-17 division. Shreya and Shruti finished joint third. 

In the below 44kg segment, Krishma defeated Sakshi to claim the title, while Megha and Sharvi ended at third spot. 

Laxmi and Pranjal won the top two positions, respectively, in the below 48kg division, while Neha and Bharti claimed the third spot. 

In the below 52kg final, Suneha beat Tavisha to bag the title while Harsheen and Sania finished in third place. 

Reety topped the below 56kg segment after beating Kanishka. Chhaya and Sonalika claimed the joint third spot. 

In the below 60kg category, Bhawna beat Ashita to claim the top spot while Damanpuneet and Priya clinched the third position. 

Jasmin won the above 60kg category. She beat Charanjeet in the final. Jasmeen and Mahima finished third.

Carmel in basketball final 

Carmel Convent School, Sector 9, will face Strawberry Fields School, Sector 26, in the girls' U-14 final in the ongoing inter-school basketball championship. 

In the semifinal, played here today, Carmel Convent defeated St. Anne's School, Sector 32, 15-2, with Sania shooting nine points for the winners. 

In the second semifinal, Strawberry Fields beat Vivek High School, Sector 38, 32-10. Samuya contributed 11 points to the winning total while Prachi collected five points for Vivek High School.
