Activists of the Swaraj Abhiyan and the Mahila Manch have demanded an investigation by the CBI into the Kedarnath disaster relief works. The activists held a protest at the District Magistrate’s office in support of their demand here today. They submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister asking him to take initiative on the issue. The activists said politicians and bureaucrats, who induldged in corruption in the disaster-relief funds, should be punished.

“It is pity that the Kedarnath disaster became a golden opportunity for our leaders to earn money in the name of relief funds. Donations worth crore of rupees were given by the people all around the world, but our leaders misused the funds instead of using for the relief work,” said Swaraj Abhiyan state president Kamla Pant.

She slammed former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna and his men for showing such an insensitive attitude at the time of crises.

She demanded a CBI investigation into the case. “If our demand is not met before the Assembly elections, we will be forced to intensify the protest,” she added.

Nirmala Bisht, Tushar Rawat, Vijay Naithani, Shakuntala Gusain, Beena Saklani and Kiran Purohit took part in the protest.
