CBI sleuths today questioned four officials of the engineering department of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) in connection with the board’s Sector 63 Self-Financing Housing Scheme.
According to reports, the questioning was done at the CBI office in Sector 30.
Sources said the Engineering Department officials were asked about the allotment of work to contractor and those supervising the project. CBI sleuths questioned the officials along with files pertaining to the housing scheme.
The sources added that questioning officials would continue in the coming days.
CBI sources said the investigation agency was now also checking the quality of material used in the construction of flats.
CBI officials had collected various documents from the CHB office pertaining to the allotment of work. The agency is probing the supervisory role of senior officials. All technical aspects in the execution of the project are being investigated.
The CHB has constructed a total of 2,108 flats at Rs 414.45 crore, which include 336 three-bedroom flats, 888 two-bedroom flats, 564 one-bedroom flats and 320 flats for the Economically Weaker Section.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to the city in September, had handed over keys and allotment letters to 10 allottees. The draw of lots for allocation of flats was held after inviting applications from general public. The allotment of flats to the EWS is in progress.
