The Centre for Public Policy and Governance set up by the Uttarakhand government last year will now play the role of a think tank instead of the policy planning group.

Chief Minister Harish Rawat has already given his consent for the new think tank by asking officials to lay out a road map in the coming days.

After the Planning Commission became defunct it was but natural that the state Planning Commission too would follow the course. To that end, last year, the state government had formed a policy planning group. At the two meetings, the government seems to be dissatisfied with the result.

Now, with the formation of the Centre for Public Policy and Governance, the government has come up with a wider frame work. The centre will not only advise the government in policy formation but also encourage research work. All top universities of the state would be associated with the centre.
