Kargil, July 6

Sixteen years after the Kargil war, the place is slowly emerging as a tourism destination for Indian and foreign visitors. It has also emerged as a patriotic tourist destination as hundreds of people from various parts of country visit the area to pay homage to the martyrs of the 1999 Kargil war.

Ambassador Deepak Vohra, who is Special Adviser to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Commander, Top Gun Brigade, Brigadier Mukesh Agarwal today inaugurated the Apati War Memorial of the 153 Medium Regiment.

On July 6, 1999, Subedar Balbir Singh became the first martyr of the 153 Medium Regiment. He laid down his life for the nation while fighting Pakistan intruders.

Acting Chief Executive Councillor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil, Syed Abass Razvi and Army officers paid homage to the martyrs.
