Infiltration foiled in Tangdhar area

Srinagar, October 12
Two weeks after the surgical strikes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the Army foiled infiltration by militants in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday night.
The infiltration was foiled in the Tangdhar sector, around 130 km from Srinagar. The Army noticed a group of heavily armed militants trying to sneak into Kashmir from across the Line of Control.
“As they were challenged, they opened fire. Their action was retaliated, triggering a gunfight. The gunfight has stopped now and a search operation is still in progress,” an Army official said. Additional personnel were deployed in the area to ensure a tight cordon around the dense forest.
The infiltration was foiled at a time when security forces were fighting militants holed up inside a government building on the outskirts of Srinagar.
This was the fourth infiltration bid and the first to be foiled in Tangdhar after the Army carried out surgical strikes on militant launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on September 29.
