Twenty-year-old Kirti Mor, a student of Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, is a part of the Indian contingent for the 9th Youth Netball Championship that kicked off in Hong Kong today.
Besides representing Panjab University twice in all-India inter-university netball championship, Kirti has also participated in the all-India inter-university basketball championship.
Her father Punjab Singh, a head constable of the UT police posted with the traffic wing, is also a former district-level basketball player.
Before leaving for Hong Kong, Kirti maintained that her recent feat was all because of her hard work and dedication. “Playing for India is a matter of pride for a player. I wished to play for my nation in basketball; however, managed to make it through in the netball selection this year. After returning to India, I will try to make an effort in basketball as well,” said Kirti.
Adding further, she said, “Chandigarh is a perfect place to nurture sports talent. Netball is slowly gaining popularity in the region. The international exposure would open doors for me to adopt the game as career.”
She was among three netball players from Chandigarh, who were selected as probables for the Indian team. “There was a tough competition at the probables’ preparatory camp. However, my performance impressed the selectors and they shortlisted me to carry national colours. I hope to learn a lot at the competition. I am still left with three more crucial years to perform and win,” stated Kirti.
