CM lays stone of international sports stadium at Haldwani

Chief Minister Harish Rawat today laid the foundation stone of a multipurpose international sports stadium at Haldwani. It is being constructed at cost of Rs 25 crore.
The stadium would host the 2018 National Games.
Addressing a gathering after the inauguration ceremony, Harish Rawat said the stadium would have facilities for both outdoor and indoor games. He said the city’s infrastructure would soon witness an improvement.
He said in the wake of the decision to hold the 2018 National Games in Uttarakhand, elevated roads would be constructed in Dehradun, Haridwar, Haldwani and Rishikesh.
He said there was a proposal to include the Rudrapur-Lalkuan-Haldwani-Kathgodam and Rishikesh-Haridwar-Dehradun stretches in the metro road corridor.
Harish Rawat said the state was making all efforts to ensure a better performance in the 2018 games. He said the government had started shortlisting players who would be give proper training. He said services of ex-servicemen would also be utilised in the capacity of coaches.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Indira Hridayesh said Design Project Limited, Mumbai, had been entrusted with construction work.
Indian Olympic Association general secretary Rajiv Mehta said it was honour for Uttarakhand that the state had been selected for the 2018 National Games. He urged the Chief Minister to ensure the expansion of the Pantnagar airport, so as to ensure better facilities to sportspersons during the games.
