Rohtak, March 15
A number of college and university girl students blocked a road near Nonand village in Rohtak district yesterday. They were protesting the discontinuation of the roadways bus service on a local route covering six villages.
Protesters said two buses used to ply on a route covering Kheri Sadh, Nonand, Pakasma, Kasrenti, Atail, Ghitor and Gijhi but one of the buses had been cancelled recently. “The only bus plying on the route is always packed beyond its capacity. Due to this, girl students commuting by the bus are subjected to harassment and molestation,” said a protester.
Kiran, a student of law course at Maharashi Dayanand University, Rohtak, maintained that several girls had stopped attending college after the discontinuation of the bus service. The girl students have also submitted a memorandum to the roadways authorities seeking resumption of the bus service.
