Former Assisstant Sub-Inspector, who was lodged in Pathankot jail, slashed his wrists today. Rakesh Kaushal, SSP, said former ASI Gulshan Bir Singh of Gurdaspur district had been lodged in the jail for a year in connection with a murder case in Amritsar.
The SSP deputed Manoj Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police (City), to inquire into the sequence of events. The DSP, in his report submitted to his senior officials, stated that the jail authorities had conducted a surprise check in the prison yesterday. Sniffer dogs too had been pressed into service to check if inmates were in the possession of drugs. During checking, Gulshan got panicked and refused to be frisked. Later, two mobile phones were recovered from his possession. The jail authorities decided to take action against him.
“This action of the authorities disturbed Gulshan, following which he went into a state of depression and decided to slash his wrists,” the DSP said.
