A 26-year-old sub-inspector, Jagdeep Kaur, was mowed down by a Mahindra TUV here this morning when she was on her way to police station No. 6.

The speeding vehicle, which had a J&K registration number, jumped lights near the Chunmun Mall, hitting the Activa-borne cop. She was taken to the Civil Hospital and later referred to a private hospital, where she was declared brought dead. The TUV occupants ran away. The vehicle was impounded. An FIR was registered under Sections 304-A, 279, 427, 335 and 338 of the IPC. Jagdeep was a resident of Fazilpur village, Tarn Taran.
