“It has been a long-standing demand of the people of Kotdwar for opening of the gates of the park from the Kotdwar side. It was strange that while two thirds of the Corbett park is in Pauri Garhwal district but still there were no entry gates for the park in Kotdwar, that falls in Pauri Garhwal district. Finally, the demand has been fulfilled”, Harak Singh pointed out. He also added that wildlife safari would also be started from the Kotdwar gates.

He also held that his ministry was laying emphasis on eco-tourism and asserted that eco-tourism was meant to develop and promote environmentally sustainable, economically viable and socially and culturally responsible tourism in Uttarakhand. He said the Ecotourism Development Corporation of Uttarakhand that came into existence from March 2017 was focusing on ecotourism.

Harak Singh Rawat also asserted that the Forest Rest House-based ecotourism circuits were being developed in Uttarakhand. Under each circuit, a number of forest rest houses will be taken up. “Necessary infrastructure development will be made in and around these forest rest houses while promoting nearby places of tourist attraction. The main aim is to promote ecologically and culturally sustainable tourism while also augmenting tourism based livelihoods for local communities”, he added.
