Cultural extravaganza enthrals audience

Carmel Convent School celebrated its annual day with enthusiasm here today.

An exhibition on the theme, ‘Exploring Jammu and Kashmir’, was organised on the occasion in which the rich cultural heritage of the state was depicted.

The programme began with a prayer followed by lighting of traditional lamp by dignitaries. Sheena Sahni, a Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) officer and alumni of the school was the chief guest at the event. She passed out of the first batch of Class X of the school in 2005.

The chief guest acknowledged the contributions of the school in shaping her life. “Life in Carmel was more than pursuance of academic excellence. It was more of a moulding a holistic personality, learning to rationalise actions, learning to differentiate between good and bad and developing a sense of compassion which is needed in today’s world,” Sahni recalled.

Students of the school presented a colourful cultural programme by showcasing Dogra marriage rituals and dances of Jammu. Rt Rev Ivan Pereira, president of the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar Education Society, was all praise for students for their performances. He lauded the efforts of Maria Swati, principal of the school.
