The Agricultural Department has issued 45,000 soil health cards till now. In the year 2018-19 about 19,282 soil samples have been tested under the “Tandrusat Punjab Mission” till date against the set target of 26,504 in the Hoshiarpur District.
Out of it, 18,000 soil health cards have been issued after testing the soil samples. The awareness camps are being organised throughout the district, where an awareness regarding the exact amount of fertilisers is being generated among farmers on the basis of soil testing besides, the new techniques of irrigation.
This was disclosed by DC Isha Kalia after she examined the Soil Testing Laboratory of Agricultural Department. She examined the progress of soil health card scheme and the process of soil samples undergoing soil test.
The Deputy commissioner (DC) said the department was moving towards accomplishment of the set target and hoping to meet that well in advance from stipulated time frame.
The DC appealed to the farmers to get their soil tested and on this base use fertilisers, so that along with stoppage of the excessive cost, the environment, soil and health, could be looked after. She said healthy fertilisers would help in producing quality output and also the income of the farmers would increase by 20-25 per cent.
Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Vinay Kumar told about the detailed information about the soil testing process. Soil Testing Officer Dr Surinder Singh and Agriculure Development Officer Dr Gagandeep Kaur were also present.
