Chandigarh, June 2
Deputy Commissioner Dr SB Deepak Kumar today posted employment officer Parveen Kumar as the District Food and Supplies Officer (DFSO) replacing Jai Ram, who has been transferred back to the State Agriculture Department.
Parveen Kumar had been the DFSO earlier too. Jai Ram’s transfer is being linked to the case of 300 excess bags of rice found at a government godown in the Industrial Area, Phase I here.
It was alleged that every month, officials and contractors were selling wheat, rice and sugar “by misappropriating” stocks at the PR (provincial reserve) centre.
The first physical check of stock was reportedly done by Jai Ram, the then DFSO, who had found about 300 bags (50 kg each) of rice lying excess as compared to the closing stock register.
The Joint Director, Food and Supplies, who had got conducted the second physical verification and found the same irregularity, had sought a detailed inquiry report. But no further action has been taken in the case.
