Doda, July 10
Landslides due to continuous rain resulted in the blocking of the Doda-Kishtwar highway for about 10 hours today causing many hardships to passengers.
The highway was closed to vehicular traffic after landslides damaged large stretches of the road between Kandni and Doda at about 7.30 am today, an official said. “Landslides and falling stones have blocked the Doda-Kishtwar road since early morning at several places in Kandni, Sui-Gwadi, Thathri, which have been cleared now. Trees along with mud and boulders have blocked the way,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), National Highways, Sanjay Kotwal said.
Hundreds of vehicles, including trucks, cars and busses, got stranded on both sides of the highways for hours, which also caused great inconvenience to passengers.
The state has been experiencing heavy rainfall since the past few days leading to landslides at several places in the Chenab region.
