Doiwala to have plastic engineering institute

Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertiliser Ananth Kumar, along with Chief Minister TS Rawat, laid the foundation stone of the Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) in Doiwala and inaugurated the Skill Development and Technical Support Centre (CSTS) here on Tuesday.

The CIPET will be built on 10 acres of land at Doiwala at a cost of Rs 40 crore. A plastic recycling unit will also be set up.

Further, another CIPET was also announced for Dwarahat and a plastic medical devices park for Sitarganj. Through these centres, the state government is aiming at providing employment to around 5,000 youth.

The Union minister said the significance of CIPET was similar to IIT. “As of now, there is a demand of 8 lakh plastic engineers in the country and plastic engineers are also in great demand abroad,” he said.

The government plans to start the session at CIPET in September.

Around 1,500 youth will receive training in the first year, 2,500 in the second year and 3,000 youth in the third year.

The minister said on the orders of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, out of 899 acres of land of the IDPL, 833.25 acres had been returned by the Centre to the state government. “IDPL will continue to function on the remaining land,” said the minister.

The minister also announced the sanction of 100 more Jan Aushadhi Centres.

Chief Minister TS Rawat said that the Uttarakhand government would give 200 acres of land for expansion of AIIMS (Rishikesh) from the IDPL land, while on the remaining land a convocation centre would be set up.
