Dr HC Sharma is Nauni varsity VC

Dr HC Sharma, a renowned international entomologist, has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of the Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, by the Governor today.

Dr Sharma was working as Principal Scientist at the Hyderabad-based International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT).

His name was selected from a panel of five candidates who had been selected by the Search Committee comprising the Director General, Indian Council of Agriculture and Research, and a nominee each from the University Grants Commission and the university’s Chancellor-cum-Governor. The post fell vacant following completion of the tenure of Dr Vijay Thakur. More than 70 had applied for this post.

Dr Sharma, after assuming the charge, met Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh as well as the Minister for Horticulture Vidya Stokes in Shimla.

Dr Sharma graduated from the agriculture college at Solan and did his postgraduation and Ph.D were from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Delhi. He is a visiting professor of Qupi University, Toowoomba, Australia, and Wisconsin University, the USA.

He was awarded by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research, Washington, and was also the recipient of the International Plant Protection Award for distinction as well as the Millennium ICISAT Science Award. He has more than 500 research publications to his credit.
