While the Ward No. 5 saw a number of inaugurations of green belts in the recent past, the area councillor has failed to get the main problem of dumping of cow dung resolved in Dhanas.

Congress councillor and former mayor Subhash Chawla, who represents the ward comprising Dhanas and Sector 25, admits that he has failed to find a solution to the problem of cow dung.

In 2015, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had issued orders to the Municipal Corporation (MC) to remove cow dung from various green belts at Milk Colony in Dhanas. Then, the MC had also launched a massive drive but the problem still persists.

People tie their cattle near the wall along a road due to which it even becomes difficult for residents to pass by. Garbage lifting is not regular in Dhanas. Roads in the area, however, were re-carpeted recently.

The problem of slum dwellers settled in Sector 25 after being ousted from various colonies that were demolished in the city has not been addressed by the MC and the UT Administration so far. Though some slum dwellers have their names on the list of persons to be rehabilitated by the Chandigarh Administration, a large number of those putting up in the area do not see a chance of getting rehabilitated.

Due to the problem of slum dwellers illegally occupying a large chunk of land, the MC could not carry out many of its projects like community centre and parks in Sector 25. Sanitation and supply of muddy water in the sector 25 are common problems that residents face. There is a colony of Panjab University employees in the sector, but the civic body failed to carry out any development work there.
