Dharamsala, December 11
The Union Government has not given its nod for the Pathankot-Jogindernagar-Manali-Leh railway line. This information was provided in the house by the state government in response to a query from BJP MLA from Jogindernagar Gulab Singh Thakur.
Gulab Singh had asked if the Union Government had in principle provided its nod for the railway line.
The information assumes significance in view of the fact that Kangra Member of Parliament (MP) and former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar had stated that the Centre had granted approval for the said railway line.
The BJP leaders from the state, including Shanta Kumar, have been lobbying for the railway line on the plea that it was strategic from defence point of view and for progress of the hill state.
The railway line was also promised by BJP MLAs during elections.
