District and Sessions Judge Padam Singh has emphasised the need for extending education facilities to the children residing in shelter homes.

He stated this while addressing a one-day workshop organised under the Juvenile Justice Act here on Sunday. He impressed upon officials to provide nutritious food to children. Good infrastructure must be provided in shelter homes, he added.

Deputy Commissioner of Chamba M.Sudha Devi said the Juvenile Justice Act was being implemented effectively. She said officials had been asked to be vigilant and ensure that the children of shelter homes were being looked after meticulously.

Officials of the Police Department and the Child and Women Welfare Department detailed the activities being carried out in the district with regard to the Juvenile Justice Act. — OC
