Jalandhar, March 2
The Directorate of Enforcement, Jalandhar zonal office, today filed a prosecution complaint against retired IAS officer Dr Swaran Singh in the special court of the District and Sessions Judge.
Dr Swaran Singh, the then chairman of Punjab Arts Council, had allegedly embezzled public funds to the tune of Rs 1.96 crore out of funds sanctioned by the Centre for organising a cultural programme on the birth centenary of Bhagat Singh in 2008 at his ancestral village Khatkar Kalan, Nawanshahr.
A case was registered by the ED, Jalandhar zonal office, on February 23, 2012 under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
ED officer Ajai Singh attached movable/ immovable properties worth Rs 98 lakh, including his house at Ajit Enclave in Amritsar, and bank accounts in the case. The date of hearing the matter is March 10. — TNS
