Dental implants have emerged as a reliable treatment option for loss of teeth. Their ability to preserve bone and soft tissue yields highly aesthetic results in the long term. Increasingly, patients are demanding not only enhancements to their dental (micro) aesthetics but also to their overall facial (macro) aesthetics.

Static wrinkles occur as a result of ageing, photo damage, trauma or scarring. Tissue laxity occurs as a function of age. Dentists advocate the use of non-surgical treatments in a subtle and natural way to enhance your natural beauty and give you renewed confidence in your appearance.

An emerging treatment option to address these issues is the use of a paralysing material such as botulinum toxin A (botox) to decrease the appearance of the wrinkles.

What is botox?

Botox is commonly used to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles in the upper third of your face, while still maintaining a natural expression. Anti-wrinkle injections, or more commonly known as botox injections, are the treatment of choice if you wish to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles on your face.

Receiving Botulinum toxin takes only a few minutes and there’s no need for anaesthesia or down-time. The injections are made using a very fine needle and are virtually painless. Generally, results are visible within two to 10 days.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are substances or gels injected beneath the skin’s surface to smooth wrinkles and add volume. The products are composed of stabilised hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in the cells of the skin. It works by drawing in water and therefore augmenting the skin, thus reducing the wrinkle treated. It is by no means permanent and is totally biodegradable.

Dermal fillers can help ‘soften and smoothen’ facial indentations, add volume to your skin, smoothen unwanted facial wrinkles and lines and help our skin to regain its youthful look.

The procedure

A dermal filler procedure requires no anaesthetic. It is simple and straight-forward, involving a few tiny injections directly into the skin, and takes only 30 minutes. Make-up can be applied immediately after the procedure and you can go straight back to work. Results can be seen immediately, and lasts from 9 months to about a year. Optimal results can be maintained over a long period of time through regular repeated treatments.
