Agriculture Minister OP Dhankar has directed the officers concerned to launch a special drive through demonstration plots to encourage farmers to adopt sowing of wheat through happy seeder machines in paddy-growing districts. The department would provide half of the cost of sowing to farmers for adopting the technique .
The minister, who presided over a meeting of the department here, was informed that the department had 28 happy seeders of its own whereas 65 happy seeder machines had been made available to farmers on subsidy. The Minister suggested that happy seeders might be taken on rent from farmers having these machines to get sowing done by others.
About paddy stubble, Dhankar stressed the need for getting a long-term scheme prepared with the help of scientists to find a permanent solution to the problem.
