Panel to submit report in sexual harassment case
The report of a special committee constituted by Panjab University to investigate into allegations of sexual harassment against Daljit Singh, a senior technician at the department of physics, will be tabled before the PU Syndicate for further action tomorrow.
The panel headed by AK Bhandari, Dean, University Instructions, included the PU Registrar, Chief Vigilance Officer and the Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor.
The committee, on the basis of a report of the Panjab University Committee Against Sexual Harassment (PUCASH), had issued a show-cause notice to the employee on February 4, 2016, but till date, no reply has been filed by Daljit Singh. The committee had recommended that an increment of Daljit be withheld as per the service rules of the university.
However, the committee was informed that Daljit was retiring in May 2016 and the next increment was due only in September this. So, the committee recommended that his pay be fixed an increment below his present salary.
The committee also pointed out that findings of the PUCASH were accepted by the Vice-Chancellor on July 30, 2015, but action could not be taken against him due to a delay in receiving the report from the legal cell. Notably, the PUCASH had found allegations against Daljit true.
