Gutsy girl: Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut has done it again! After winning hearts and awards with an endearing performance in Queen last year, she has got universal acclaim for her spunky double role in Tanu Weds Manu Returns, as the rebellious Tanu and the fiery athlete Datto. Here are some reasons we admire her and why she is an effortless feminist.

Her choice of roles

Kangana Ranaut has always been applauded for her unconventional choice of brave roles such as in Gangster, Fashion, Tanu Weds Manu, Queen, Krrishh 3 and now TWMR. Her nuanced performances have played an important role in the success of these films. Meanwhile, she has been panned when she took up baby-doll roles in movies like Game, Shaka Laka Boom Boom, Kites, Rascals and Dhamaal 2. She has the liberty now to choose roles that appeal to her and do justice to her talent.

From Himachal Pradesh to Paris

Kangana was a rebellious teenager who ran away from home and pursued acting in theatre and movies. She spent most of her salary on designer clothes and made heads turn with her incredible and original fashion statements. For a girl from a village in Himachal Pradesh, she has come a long way in the fashion world too for she is a fashion icon of substance and is a front-row regular at fashion shows in Paris with Manish Malhotra. How does it get any better than that? What an inspiring journey it is!

I will survive

The curly-haired beauty has been through hell in Bollywood with people mocking her for her accent, lack of lineage, choice of roles, being jealous of her early National Award win for Fashion, critical acclaim and sartorial choices when she was down and out. Kangana has survived due to sheer determination, self-belief, grit, and talent. She has also made risky choices like doing Tanu Weds Manu and Queen.

Sisterly love

Kangana is extremely close to her sister Rangoli who is an acid-burn survivor. She ensured that she had a lavish wedding and personally looked into all the details in 2011. Rangoli is also her business manager and representative. Most recently, Kangana turned down a two crore endorsement deal for a fairness cream because she did not want to insult her dusky sister and dusky girls of the nation. Can we please applaud her for that? Behen hai to aisi!

Family first

Miss Ranaut has purchased a lavish penthouse in suburban Mumbai with her own money and enjoys a luxurious lifestyle. When she left home to pursue movies, her father stopped talking to her and the family disowned her. However, post her success, her family patched up with her and they often join her in Mumbai.
