Flash mob
Chandigarh: On the eve of International Women’s Week, around 40 girls performed a flash mob at the Student Centre here on Wednesday. Girls blended the theme of celebration of womanhood. They also announced various events to be held tomorrow.
Honour for PU profs
PU Prof Dr Manjit Kaur has been invited by Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture, Italy, as an Invited Scientist. Prof Manju Jaidka has also been invited by New York University, USA, and the University of Regina, Saskatoon, Canada, for a week-long Visiting Professorship at each of the two institutions.
Shubham crowned Miss Commerce
A farewell party was organised by the Department of Commerce of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, for the outgoing batch of BCom and MCom final-year at the college auditorium. The students presented a colorful cultural programme to entertain the audience. The event also witnessed some elegant fashion and modelling by students of the outgoing batches that looked fantabulous in sarees and formal Indian attires. Principal of the college Mani Bedi crowned Shubham as Miss Commerce, Neha as Miss Charismatic and Inderpreet Kaur as Miss Confident.
Shubhangi adjudged Ms Farewell
A farewell party was held at Government Home Science College, Sector 10, here. The theme of the party was Rainbow. Girls set the stage on fire during a ramp walk. Shubhangi was crowned as Ms Farewell in the undergraduate section, whereas Nancy was crowned as Ms Farewell in the postgraduate section.

A farewell party was organised by foreign students of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, at the college. Nalini Singal, Director, Indian Council for Cultural Relation, Chandigarh, was chief guest on the occasion. Prof MS Marwaha, principal of the college, wished the students a bright and successful future. Nalini Singal praised the college for providing conducive environment to foreign students. Two documentaries were also shown.
Expert talks
The NSS unit of Government Home Science College, Sector 10, here, organised expert talks on the theme “Empowering Women, Empowering Humanity.” Dr Swapna Misra, MD, Obstetrics Gynaecologist, DNB, MNAMS, from Fortis Hospital, delivered a talk on reproductive health of women. The interactive session between her and the students were specifically on the hygiene, signs of cancer, time to time examination and related diagnostic tests. Dr Anil Garg, Assistant Director, Malaria, UT, Health Department, under the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, delivered a talk on swine flu, its symptoms, precautions and steps for management. He cleared the doubts on various other health issues. A number of other activities were carried out at the college. — TNS
