The SGPC has asked the CBSE to ensure that baptised Sikh candidates are allowed to wear religious symbols while taking National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), scheduled for Sunday.
SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar wrote to the CBSE, objecting to the harassment Sikh candidates faced when they were not allowed to enter the examination hall with “kara” and “kirpan”.
He demanded of CBSE chairperson Rakesh Kumar Chaturvedi to direct all examination centres to honour the Sikh religion and never object to baptised students wearing religious symbols.
“Wherever baptised Sikhs are asked to remove their religious symbols, it ends up hurting their sentiments. We have urged the CBSE chairperson to take cognisance of the sensitive matter,” Badungar added.
