Former Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Ram Das Malangar today died at the Una district hospital. The 70-year-old leader died of a heart attack. He is survived by a daughter and two sons.
Hailing from Malangar panchayat of the Bangana block, Ram Das Malangar was elected to the Vidhan Sabha for two consecutive terms as BJP candidate from Kutlehar. He represented the segment from 1993 to 2003 and as the 12th Deputy Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha. He remained in office from August 29, 1999, to January 28, 2003.
Before coming to politics, Malangar had remained the pardhan of his panchayat for 15 years. After 2003, Malangar bid farewell to the BJP and joined the Congress. He had contested the last Assembly elections as Congress candidate, securing the second place.
The moral remains of Ram Das Malangar were consigned to flames with full state honours in his ancestral village.
DC Abhishek Jain laid a wreath on behalf of the Chief Minister, while a posse of policemen gave the last salute. ADC Rajesh Kumar, Kutlehar MLA Virender Kanwar and district Congress president Varinder Dharmani were also present among others.
Former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, Industries Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, BJP state president Satpal Satti, Gagret MLA Rakesh Kalia and Chintpurni MLA Kuldip Kumar condoled the death.
