Retired IAD officer Darbara Singh Guru is among the nine candidates named by the Shiromani Akali Dal on Saturday, for the Punjab Assembly elections due early next year.
This is the second list of candidates released by the ruling party in Punjab. It had announced 69 candidates on November 16.

Releasing the names, Shiromani Akali Dal president and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said the remaining candidates will also be declared shortly, a statement from the party head office said.
Candidates announced today are: Suba Singh Badal from Jaitu constituency, Darbara Singh Guru (retired IAS officer) from Bassi Pathana, Teerath Singh Mahla from Baghapurana, Jagdeep Singh Nakai from Mansa and Mohammad Owais from Malerkotla.
Gulzar Singh, a kabaddi player, will contest from Dirba, Gobind Singh Longowal from Sunam, Bibi Mohinder Kaur Josh from Sham Chaurasi and Dr Nishan Singh from Budhlada constituency.
DS Guru, who had been the former principal secretary to the Chief Minister, had contested the 2012 elections on SAD ticket from Bhadaur (reserved) constituency and had lost to Mohammed Sadiq of the Congress.
