Free joint replacement surgeries performed
Ludhiana, January 22
Operation Walk IV-2016, the fourth edition of the philanthropic event at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), successfully completed 59 joint replacement surgeries in three days. These surgeries were carried on poor needy patients in association with a team of specialists from Operation Walk Maryland, USA.
These patients suffering from advanced disabling arthritis of the hip and knee joints had been condemned to a life of pain and misery with no means to afford even medicines, let alone joint replacement. Many of them had lost their livelihood and were unable to support their families.
The hallway of the orthopaedic ward was filled with patients with walkers in their hands and smiles on their faces. With advanced physiotherapy and pain management protocols, they were able to walk a day after the surgery. — TNS
