Not a seasoned politician, the Bollywood actress-turned-Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher never lose an opportunity to speak from the core of her heart if she spots anything ‘wrong’. She proved this once again during an event at the PEC University of Technology the other day. After finding her name missing from the plaque of the new academic block, she spoke out against the organisers and went to the extent of accusing the local authorities of ignoring her very often. This, many feel, is enough for the novice politician to get angry!
For PM’s sake
People are showing great enthusiasm in yoga camps being held in different parts of the city ahead of International Yoga Day celebrations. Besides youth, elderly persons are also joining the camps with much zeal. Oldies are often seen performing yoga with more interest than young people. “And why not, after all we have to do it with none else but our own PM,” reasoned an oldie, who was sweating it out to do it with perfection.
‘Where are my men’
The other day, Mayor Arun Sood faced awkward moments when he waited for his own party councillors in the MC to show them a presentation on rejuvenation of Sector 17. The Mayor had organised the presentation for traders and councillors. But when the MC started presentation for councillors, he found his own party councillors absent. He went to the senior deputy mayor’s room where majority of his party councillors were having tea. He requested them to come and see the presentation. Still, many councillors did not leave the room immediately and preferred to finish their tea before going to the MC committee room to see the presentation. This, the insiders say, was enough for the Mayor to feel that all is not well.
Embarrassed khaki
A goof-up by the Chandigarh Police in rewarding two cops for catching a snatcher, who was actually caught by public, left police officials red faced, who later avoided the media over the issue and failed to reply to the queries pertaining to the blunder. Calls and messages by various journalists were left unanswered by the officers. The most embarrassing moment was indeed for the UT top cop TS Luthra, who initiated a morale booster exercise for his men.
When journos faced queries
Soon after the CBSE Class XII results were declared, some school teachers and parents whose wards were among the toppers got busy confirming marks of students of other schools. They did so to verify if their students/wards got the highest marks. When the schools of these students were contacted by mediapersons to confirm the marks, the schools sought information of toppers from other tricity schools, which made the job of journalists tough.
Most wanted
Of mediapersons, photojournalists are undoubtedly the most popular among the masses and the classes alike. So much so that many of them go on to become synonymous with the media house they work for. After CBSE Class XII results were announced on Saturday, the authorities, staff and students of a leading school in Chandigarh raised a massive hue and cry when they failed to find their ‘favourite newspaper’ among the five photojournalists present on the spot during the photo-shoot of the city’s toppers. They were pacified only when the photojournalist in question called up the school Principal and informed her that in his absence, his colleague, who was present on the spot, would be clicking pictures.
