Chandigarh, February 2

A  WhatsApp message sent by mistake by the SHO of the Sector 39 police station, Inspector Rajdeep Singh, on the official group of the Chandigarh Police that has the IGP and all senior officers as members, suggesting the names of inspectors for the post of the SHO of the Sector 34 police station, created a furore in police circles.

The message read that as desired, he was sending the names of the inspectors, who are competent for posting as the SHO of the Sector 34 police station. The message had names of nine inspectors, including some women. The message left the members of the group shocked.

The message received a strong reaction from the IGP, who wrote back saying who was he (SHO) to suggest the names. The SHO then apologised for sending the message by mistake. The IGP also questioned him as to whom the message was meant to be sent.

Sources said the message was supposed to be sent to some police officer.

However, by mistake, it was sent on the WhatsApp group of which IGP, DIG, SSP, SPs, DSPs, SHOs and several inspectors were members.

The message turned out to be a hot topic of discussion among UT police personnel.

Inspector Baljeet Singh, SHO of the Sector 34 police station, was sent to the Police Lines, Sector 26, on administrative grounds on January 30. UT SSP Eish Singhal said no inquiry had been marked yet.
