Modern electronic gadgets have failed to do any good. Social scientistsand psychiatrists believe that social media cansever ties.
Acknowledging helpfulness of modern electronic media gadgets in coordination and communication, Prince Juneja, a professional, said undue subscription of social media had resulted in wastage of most productive time of people.
“Contrary to the earlier trend when people used to make use of morning hours for most important works requiring fresh mind, the precious time is wasted in exchanging messages on social media,” argued Juneja.
Shilpa Khatri, an executive, regretted that values and norms of an ideal life had been sublimed with the habitual overuse of social media for sharing stereotypes messages and video clips.
Khatri said like many of her friends and relatives, she spent a lot of time in deleting unwanted mails and messages on her ID.
Dr Anshu Gupta, a psychiatrist, said irrational use of modern electronic media gadgets had affected the lifestyle of people in a big way. Besides resulting in dilution of family ties, the tendency had complicated interpersonal relationships at almost all levels. Citing examples of middle class urban and suburban families, Dr Anshu Gupta stated that many families had come on the verge of dissolution due to misunderstandings caused due to overuse of these gadgets.
“Possession of a smart phone having Internet connectivity has become a fad. This has resulted in disappointment among spouses, parents, children and even close friends when they feel neglected at times,” said Dr Gupta, claiming that many family disputes had arisen due to the tendency.
